Enhanced Content Query Web Part upgraded to Beta 1.1

I am happy to announce that the Enhanced Content Query Web Part project has progressed to Beta 1.1, with some very important fixes to major bugs.

The web part now correctly prints out the item ID, has context menus for folders (not just documents) and supports displaying icons for documents.

Be sure to read the documentation (installation instructions) and use the new XSLT that is provided there. The old XSLT will not solve any of the bugs I fixed.

STP Language converter - free download

My friends in Kwizcom have done it again.
Below is a link to their free STP language converter which "translates a site template file (.stp) to a desired language".
This would be very useful if you want to install the Microsoft templates (the "fantastic 40") but you are running a sharepoint server in alanguage that Microsoft didn't release the templates in.
See this in the Kwizcom blog or just download the tool from their site.
If you want to know how they do it - they are telling you that too!

Good work guys!

Print list feature improved!

That is why I like open source. Scot Hiller who started an open source project for free sharepoint features took my "Print List" feature and improved it, and published it in codeplex. I wish the referance to me was clearer (it just says "the author" and codeplex doesnt support putting in links in the description! ha!) but I know that Scot did his best with the codeplex interface.
So run to codeplex and download the print list from there. And if you have the time and knowledge - contribute to the project!

SharePoint Tips Utility Pack source code is released!

Yes!
Finally I got the project open in codeplex, and finally I installed team foundation, and now version 1.1 of the utility pack, including the source code is available from the utility pack project site.

The new version includes improvements to the field changing page (you can now rename a field, and you can define that the change should be in the selected list and in all the lists in all the sub sites of the selected site), and it remembers the last site you opened.
I even went all out and created an installation application.

So use it, and use it wisely. If you have requests - the project site has a issue list where you should post your requests.
If you change the code - please post any changes for the community to review, and always remember to give credit where it's due.

Announcing the SharePoint Tips Utility Pack!

update (13.2.2006)
I moved the download and released the open source to a codeplex open source project.
I also released version 1.1 which has some improved features on the field settings screen.

update (1.12.2006) - I moved the utility pack download to a better host- the Canberra SharePoint User Group site (which is where the application was first announced).
Please be patient when clicking the download link, as the user group site was not meant to be a file host and I guess the download can take a while to begin - but its a small file so when it does begin it wont take long.
I am also in contact with Microsoft to get the source code on codeplex - so stay tuned!

Its that time again - time for me to give away something I did for myself to the public.

This time its a pack of small utilities made to make life easier for me as a sharepoint 2007 deployer\administrator\consultant. I am constantly working on small utilities and scripts like these, and now I packaged some of these and I am letting you download it for free. At your own risk.

So hurry and download the SharePoint Tips Utility Pack. I will move the file to another file host service when I find a better one.

Oh, before I forget- to run this application you must run it on to the sharepoint server itself, and to set the trust level in the web.config file to "Full" or sharepoint will not allow the application to get to the data...

Here is what you get in the pack:

  1. A utility to push web parts to existing sites
  2. A utility to create lists in existing sites
  3. A utility to delete sites recursively
  4. A utility to change list fields settings

I also plan to add to it my utility to register event handlers to lists - coming soon!
So please remember - I am open to suggestions and when I am able I will release the source code for the community benefit. kick it on SharePointKicks.com
